Staying the Distance Podcasts

It’s amazing how much I have learnt through the process of writing a book. And the opportunities that it has opened up.

From speaking at private dinners (with guests including the Private Adviser to Their Majesties the King and Queen), to radio show slots in the US and Ireland, right through to a number of really interesting conversations on a variety of podcasts, the whole process has been a complete joy and privilege.

As with the central theme of the book, I am learning that it is a marathon not a sprint. With many more speaking engagements and conversations lined up, I am however being increasingly asked about where people can find these conversations. I thought it made sense therefore to share some of the links. I’ve focused predominately on a selection of my podcast appearances, but have also added in a few other conversations and sessions that have been recorded, where public access is not restricted, and where different bits of insight (and contributors) are brought to life.

If any pique your interest, and you take some time to listen, I really hope you enjoy them and take away both insight and tools. I’m still learning so much about these appearances, so do please let me know if you have any feedback to share.

Graham Ruddick’s Off To Lunch Business Studies Podcast

I loved recording this as it was one of the first I did, and Graham had clearly read and enjoyed the book and so asked brilliant questions.

Steven Spierer’s Talk Radio One Show

Stephen and I had an hour in-depth conversation, mostly around Part One of the Book. Despite the fact Steven started the Show by declaring that he didn’t like sport, and managed to include in my Bio information relating to another Catherine Baker (!) we had such a good chat that I am booked in for Part 2 later on in 2024.

Anthony Gay’s Run the Business podcast

This one came in at short notice but it was such a good fit - the podcast explores the place where running and leadership come together, and somehow I managed to find myself talking about apples in handbags..

Sarah Williams’ Tough Girl Podcast

Whilst I definitely felt a bit of a fraud being invited onto this podcast, we had a brilliantly wide-ranging conversation where I shared more of my personal story than I usually do.

Aine Kerr’s Reignite, RTE Radio 1

I really enjoyed this short interview with Aine. She asked well-informed questions, and we picked up on issues such as the importance of discipline, and sticking to your principles.

Browne Jacobson’s #EdInfluence Podcast

I had a wide-ranging conversation with host and Browne Jacobson Partner Nick MacKenzie. We touched on the importance of taking time for personal connection, tips around belonging and creating an organisational sense of identity, personal mission statements, and navigating organisation and personal values.

Vicky Huyton’s Female Coaching Network

Not only have I known Vicky for a number of years, I also have to thank her for providing one of the most compelling stories in the book, that of Tom Daley’s pursuit of Jane Figueiredo to convince her to become his new coach. That story features at the start of the Chapter on How To Build Trust.

Alison Jones’s the Extraordinary Business Book Club

This was the very first podcast I recorded. I learnt quite a bit from doing this one, not least how to sharpen up some of my answers. So excuse the first slightly rambling answer, and stick with it to pick up insight not just on the book, but on the whole process of writing it.

Mischon de Reya Academy - in conversation with Maggie Alphonsi

I’ve had the privilege of working with Maggie a number of times, and this wide-ranging conversation to bring the themes of the book to life with examples from Maggie’s life and career was thoroughly enjoyable. Maggie has also now released her own excellent book, Winning the Fight.

Sue Anstiss’s Women’s Sport Collective/Fearless Women Sessions

Sue and her colleague Kate Hannon have built the most tremendous community at the Women’s Sport Collective, and it was a privilege to be able to share some insight and tools from the book to this amazing group of women.
